Winter Wonderland Workshop Comedy Class Held For Teens at Pheasant Run

The Noble Fool Theatricals Performing Arts Academy (soon-to-be Fox Valley Rep Performing Arts Academy in January) is proud to partner with the largest regional stage combat workshop, the Winter Wonderland Workshop, to offer a special teens class on January 8, 2011 at Pheasant Run Resort (4051 E. Main St., St. Charles, IL; admin telephone 630-443-0438).

"We were lucky to have the prestigious Winter Wonderland Workshop take place at Pheasant Run Resort this year," says Artistic Director John Gawlik. "While this weekend-long workshop is geared towards adults wanting to learn stage combat and fight choreography and is taught by the best Fight Directors around the country, we've partnered with them to offer a teen class to our academy students that offer them the chance to learn the art of physical comedy and great improv."

The class will take place at Pheasant Run Resort during the 16th Annual Winter Wonderland Workshop. Enrollments are limited and offered on a first come, first serve basis.

The Fox Valley community is also invited to observe a free showcase performed by the staff of the Winter Wonderland Workshop on Sunday, January 9, 2011 on the Pheasant Run Mainstage.

Used in TV shows like The Office, Saturday Night Live and Who's Line is it Anyway, this class with help you create your own unique moments of comedy or daring theatrical feats that can be spontaneously added to any performance, creating excitement and wonderment for your audience while keeping you and your fellow actors thinking fast and furiously.

About the Instructor: Bob Borwick has taught and directed stage violence for nearly 20 years and is a Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors. He has worked mainly on the West Coast in the San Francisco Bay Area under the leadership of Richard Lane and in Seattle, Washington. He received his BFA at the University of Illinois and is a graduate of the Dell 'Arte School of Physical Theatre. Bob can be seen as the main action model in Swashbuckling by Richard Lane (Limelight) and is the author of Crazy Janet: One Woman's Off-the-Cuff At-Work Remarks. He is a member of Actors Equity Association.

FREE PUBLIC SHOWCASE: "Staff Fights"

Come and watch some of the country's best stage combat. The Staff Fights are bits of choreography put together by the staff to show the workshop attendees that they practice what they preach - safety and storytelling through violence. Free and open to the public!

Sanctioned by the Society of American Fight Directors and the British Academy of Stage and Screen Combat, the Winter Wonderland Workshop draws students from all over the world to learn the art of staged combat for film, television and theatre from some of the best in the business.
