Victory Gardens Crip Slam and Notre Dame Present Samson Agonistes

By: Nov. 10, 2011

Victory Gardens Crip Slam and the University of Notre Dame present John Milton's Samson Agonistes.

Directed by Todd Bauer, Carolyn Demanelis and Ryan Belock

A presentation of Milton's classic featuring a post-performance panel on disability in contemporary society.

Samson Agonistes has the flavor of Greek tragedy, but stars a Biblical hero. Rather than raging against the Olympian deities, Samson calls upon the Christian God to save him. Samson Agonistes is Milton's exploration of his own blindness, which makes this play one of the most enabling texts by an author with a disability.

He achieves his greatest act as a warrior not in spite of his disability, but because of his disability.
