Thodos Dance Presents 20th Anniversary Gala, 1/28

In 1992, Melissa Thodos, a young Evanston-born, Chicago-based dancer and choreographer, was frustrated with the lack of opportunities for local dancers to work in what she considered to be the obvious environment for any well-rounded dance professional: A place to perform, create, and educate.
Twenty years later, Thodos is the only female choreographer to have helmed her own mid-sized, contemporary dance company in Chicago for two decades with this unique mission, and perhaps the only local artistic director who offers her ensemble members the honor and responsibility to pursue dance as a performer, choreographer and educator.
This accomplishment will be celebrated throughout 2012, the company's 20th anniversary year. And the celebration kicks offin swingin' style with Thodos Dance Chicago's 20th Anniversary Roaring '20s Gala, Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012 at 6:30 pm at the Chicago Cultural Center, Randolph St. at Michigan Ave, Chicago.
Legendary Broadway and film veteran, Tony Award-winning choreographer and frequent Thodos collaborator Ann Reinking will mix and mingle with her Chicago fans and the company's top supporters as Honorary Chair of TDC's annual gala.
Other highlights include a freewheeling 20 Years in 20 Minutes retrospective presentation of the company's most memorable dances over the last 20 years, the always popular Dancing with the Thodos Stars, a performance by the Thodos/Menomonee Club Youth Ensemble, live pre-dinner cabaret music courtesy of Tommy Hensel and Dan Stetzel, and finally dancing the night away with Swing Assembly, Chicago's premier event band.
The evening includes cocktails (including the evening's signature drink "Zelda's Punch,") a delicious sit-down dinner, a silent auction, and a wine roulette. Suggested dress is Roaring '20s Inspired.
