By:

Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre in association with Michael James is among the three Rogers Park theatre companies leading with the most Jeff Awards Non-Equity nominations, garnering a total of 11 nominations with 8 of these for its just-closed production of Chess. All three productions produced during the 2009-2010 season received nominations.

Recipients will be announced at the awards ceremony on Monday, June 7 at the Park West.
Theo Ubique dominates the category of Actress in a Principal Role - Musical with all three nominations going to company productions, including Maggie Portman for Chess and Danielle Brothers and Sarah Hayes for Man of La Mancha.

Chess also is nominated for: Production - Musical; Fred Anzevino and Brenda Didier for Director - Musical; both Courtney Crouse and Jeremy Trager for Actor in a Principal Role - Musical; John B Leen for Actor in a Supporting Role - Musical; Brenda Didier for Choreography, and Ryan Brewster for Music Direction.

Jill Van Brussel is nominated for Costume Design for The Taming of the Shrew.

"It is also a privilege to be honored by the Joseph Jefferson Awards Committee. Once again, the storefront theatres in the Glenwood Arts District provide to be strong leaders in the Non-Equity theatre scene. Theo Ubique is proud to be a part of that collaboration and a contributor to making the Glenwood Arts District a must-see place," said Fred Anzevino, co-founder and artistic director.
Last year, Theo Ubique received 13 nominations. Its production of Evita, featuring many of this year's nominees, received six of seven awards. The theatre company has received 18 Jeff Awards since the 2001-2002 season.
