The Theatre School Gala Highlights Student Talent and Stories to Raise Money for Scholarships

The Theatre School at DePaul University (John Culbert, Dean) is pleased to present The Theatre School Gala 2016 on Monday, November 7, in the Atlantic Ballroom of the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel, hosted by actor, writer, sketch comedian, and alumnus Kevin Douglas. The Radisson Blu is located at 221 North Columbus Drive. The event will begin with a 6 PM cocktail reception, followed by dinner and program at 7 PM, and a dessert reception at 8:45 PM.


The annual event, which formerly recognized distinguished artists and alumni with awards, will shift focus this year to highlight students and recent alumni, and will feature a performance of selected scenes and monologues interspersed with students' stories. All proceeds from the event directly benefit The Theatre School Scholarship Fund, supporting students from all over the nation to train at the school.

Kevin Douglas (actor, writer, producer, and director) received a B.F.A in acting from The Theatre School at DePaul University. Kevin is a founding member oF Brown Co. and is one half of the sketch comedy duo kevINda (Kevin Douglas and Inda Craig-Galvan). kevINda wrote and performed all over Chicago and the United States and in Toronto, and has been invited to perform in festivals including: HBO U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado; NBC Sketch Comedy Showdown in Los Angeles; Traffic Series at Steppenwolf Theatre; Chicago Sketchfest; Chicago Improv Festival; DC Comedy Festival; Seattle Sketch Comedy Festival; Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival; DC Comedy Fest; NY Sketchfest; and Just for Laughs Festival in Chicago. He was a staff writer for Green Screen Adventures on The U.

Kevin has developed and written a number of web series, including Certified and Reckless, Don Chipotle (co-written with Juan Fransisco Villa), and Logan's Square. Last summer he co-wrote a film titled Call Center, which is currently in pre-production. Other writing credits include:Blaxploitation: The Remix (nominated for seven Black Theatre Alliance Awards including Best Writing), and Blaxploitation 2: You know how we deux! (nominated for ten Black Theatre Alliance Awards including Best Writing).

Kevin is a proud ensemble member of the Regional Tony Award-winning Lookingglass Theatre, where his play Thaddeus and Slocum: A Vaudeville Adventure had its world premiere this past summer. His next play is currently in development. Kevin's Chicago acting credits include Orlando at Court Theatre and A Civil War Christmas at Northlight Theatre. Regionally Kevin has performed at Actors Theatre of Louisville, Baltimore Center Stage, Kansas City Repertory Theatre, and ALLIANCE THEATRE. He and his wife currently have a web series calledTam and Kevin Under 60!

The co-chairs for the 2016 Theatre School Gala include Joseph M. Antunovich (President, Antunovich Associates); Karen Y. Hale (Vice President, PNC Bank), Sondra A. Healy (Chairman, Turtle Wax Inc.); Brian Montgomery (Vice President, Employee and Labor Relations, Exelon); and Rev. Monsignor Kenneth Velo (Senior Executive, Office of Catholic Collaboration, DePaul University). Additional supporters of the event include Exelon and Geico.
