The Agency Theater Presents TRUTH IN CONTEXT, Now thru 8/23

By: Jul. 30, 2015

The Agency Theater collective will produce their fourth world premiere play with Truth in Context, written and directed by company member Cody Lucas. The show runs at The Alley Stage (4147 N. Broadway) tonight, July 30 - August 23, 2015.

In this tightly wound two-hander, Bobby Fincher is struggling to find a post-college job. After an abysmal interview at William Darnell's advertising firm, the game changes as the two clash and struggle for power and definition.

"It's the kind of drama that I like to see. It's a small cast, intimate setting, and very smart dialogue," says Agency Managing Director Sommer Austin.

Artistic Director Andrew Gallant seconds the thought. "I think the dialogue is funny, it's crisp. We see shifting power dynamics and it's playful in its examination of machoness."

Playwright and director Cody Lucas has had his work appear at the New York International Fringe Festival and the Out of the Loop Fringe Festival in Dallas. He also acted in the Agency's acclaimed show I Wish To Apologize To The People Of Illinois, written and directed by Gallant and Tim Touhy.

"I wanted to take a simple premise and characters that are almost stock and pull them apart throughout the show," says Lucas. "It becomes this back and forth game as they the characters try to define themselves, especially in regards to the person. It's exciting to explore and I think it makes for challenging theatre that'll resonate with the audience."

Truth in Context features Matthew Collins and Awate Serequeberhan making their Agency debuts.

The creative team includes frequent Agency collaborators Greg Pinsoneault (scenic design), Ellie Humphrys (lighting design), Kate Jacobsen (costume design), and Ryan Brankin (original music).
