Steppenwolf To Present 7th Annual RED OR WHITE BALL 6/12

By:

More than 600 of Chicagoland’s young professionals will gather for a spectacular evening of cocktails, food, entertainment, a silent auction and raffle prizes at the Steppenwolf Auxiliary Council's seventh annual Red or White Ball on Friday, June 12, 2009 at 8:00 p.m.  The premier event for Chicago’s most influential young philanthropists will be held at the unique eco-chic Salvage One, 1840 W. Hubbard Street.

Individual tickets, currently available to the public, start at $135 and can be purchased online at www.steppenwolf.org or by calling (312) 654-5681.  A limited number of $250 VIP tickets are also available and include a private cocktail reception at 7:00 p.m. with Steppenwolf ensemble members, enhanced gift bags and VIP status all night long.

“The Red or White Ball has been a sell-out event for the past three years, and tickets are already going fast for 2009,” comments Co-Chair Greg Faron.  “The venue is truly striking, and incorporates numerous raw and artistic architectural elements to create several different indoor and outdoor spaces which should provide a great backdrop for a phenomenal evening. Most importantly, all proceeds from the evening go to fund vital outreach programs which would not be possible without everyone's support,” adds Faron.

The Red or White Ball serves as the priMary Fundraiser for the Steppenwolf Auxiliary Council – a community of over 150 dynamic young professionals who strengthen the theater's ability to advance artistic experimentation and collaboration by developing new financial resources and new audiences for the creation and presentation of innovative theater. In just nine years of operation, the Auxiliary Council has provided over $700,000 in contributions, enabling Steppenwolf to continue its mission of advancing the vitality and diversity of American theater. Last year’s event successfully attracted more than 550 attendees and raised over $110,000 for the theater’s nationally recognized arts education program, Steppenwolf for Young Adults, which annually serves over 15,000 individuals from Chicago’s most underserved populations through productions and programs specifically geared towards teachers, families and young adults.

Steppenwolf for Young Adults includes:

The Young Adults Council - A unique after-school program for passionate and motivated high school students who wish to learn the inner-workings of professional theatre from the most celebrated artists in the city. In addition to invaluable face-time with these leading professionals, Council members attend the best plays in Chicago, learn how to analyze and speak about these plays, and organize events for their peers around Steppenwolf productions in hopes of inspiring a new generation of theatre enthusiasts and practitioners.

Productions for Students and Families - Steppenwolf for Young Adult productions are performed exclusively for students Tuesday – Friday mornings at 10 a.m.  Schools interested in deepening their relationship with Steppenwolf should consider becoming a subscriber or residency school.

Educator Workshops - The Teacher Theatre Immersion Course is a professional development program that provides teachers with theatre arts integration tools designed to improve student achievement. Participants are exposed to principles, pedagogies and values inspired by the theatre arts and Steppenwolf Theatre Company that are directly applicable in the classroom setting and relevant to core curriculum. The Master Teacher Workshops help teachers improve student comprehension of literature through drama, using texts related to our Steppenwolf for Young Adults productions. All offer the opportunity to earn CPDU credits. All courses and workshops are free.

Committed to the principle of ensemble performance through the collaboration of a company of actors, directors and playwrights, Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s mission is to advance the vitality and diversity of American theater by nurturing artists, encouraging repeatable creative relationships and contributing new works to the national canon.  The company, formed in 1976 by a collective of actors, is dedicated to perpetuating an ethic of mutual respect and the development of artists through on-going group work.  Steppenwolf has grown into an internationally renowned company of 42 artists whose talents include acting, directing, playwriting, filmmaking and textual adaptation.
