Short Story Theatre expands into new literary territory as real-life experiences are shared from The StoryCorps project, adapted from Dave Isay's best-selling compilation Listening Is an Act of Love.

This evening of storytelling will be presented on Thursday, January 26th, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. at Miramar Bistro, 301 Waukegan Ave., in Highwood, IL. Tickets are $10, cash or check at the door. For pre-show dinner reservations, call 847-433-1078.

In 2003 Dave Isay, editor of Listening Is an Act of Love, set up recording booths around the country, and invited real people to share memories, amassing the largest collection of voices ever recorded. They're archived in the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress...and some of the best will be presented by Short Story Theatre storytellers June Fisher and Janet Reed of Highland Park, Donna Lubow of Riverwoods, and Elizabeth Rude of Northbrook.

Stories include the following:

- A survivor relives a dramatic plane crash

- A daughter presses her father about the Holocaust.

- A sister relates her brother's bravery in fighting AIDS.

- Cousins explain how you can be poor and happy both.

- A birth mother talks to the son she gave up.

- A student leaves the reservation to become a doctor.

- A woman recalls the SMELLS of the Depression.

- A New York City bus driver remembers a woman he saved.
