Ryan McKinny Set for WINTEREISSE at Nichols Concert Hall, 4/10

By:

Acclaimed American bass-baritone Ryan McKinny performs Franz Schubert's Winterreise, accompanied by pianist Elizabeth Buccheri, Sunday, April 10 at 3 p.m. at Nichols Concert Hall, 1490 Chicago Avenue, Evanston.

Winterreise (Winter Journey) is a cycle of 24 poems by Wilhelm Müller, which Schubert set to music for voice and piano (D. 911, published as Op. 89 in 1827). It is the second of Schubert's two great song cycles on Müller's poems, the earlier being Die schöne Müllerin (D. 795, Op. 25, 1823). Composing Winterreise toward the end of his life, Schubert himself described it as "spine-chilling."
