In A Beautiful Spell, Jim and Franny wake up in the middle of the night panicked to discover that they no longer love each other. Is it real or just a night terror? Frightened and confused, the couple struggles desperately to get back what they've lost - before the sun comes up. A Beautiful Spell exposes the deep and sometimes painful truths that lie beneath the surface of wedded bliss in this hilarious and touching new play.

Rare Terra Theatre was formed in 1989 by Ian Streicher and Guy Van Swearingen. Dragan Torbica joined shortly after in 1990 and together they produced two plays, MASTER HAROLD ... and the boys (1989) and Brecht's How Much Is Your Iron? (1990), before the trio went on to pursue separate opportunities. Streicher and Torbica have periodically participated in Mary Arrchie's Woodstock Festival under the Rare Terra banner and Streicher moved to New York City, where he directed a number of new plays Off Off Broadway as well as last season's Off Broadway production of The Sensational Josephine Baker. Van Swearingen went on to form A Red Orchid Theatre, where he served as artistic director for a number of years and continues to act and direct frequently. This year, with Streicher's return to Chicago, Rare Terra is excited to be back together and producing. While A Beautiful Spell is Rare Terra's first production in more than 20 years, the company anticipates producing a wide array of character driven plays with high stakes.

A Beautiful Spell was written by Brooklyn-based playwright Greg Kalleres. Kalleres' plays have been produced all over the country including New York, Los Angeles, Berkley and Chicago. He has received the Certificate of Excellence from the Kennedy Center among other outstanding achievements. A Beautiful Spell was also selected for the HotINK International Play Reading Festival.

A Beautiful Spell runs July 11 - August 7 at the Royal George Gallery, 1641 N. Halsted St. Performance days and times are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m. Preview Performances are Monday, July 11 - Wednesday, July 13 at 8 p.m. Ticket prices range from $15 - $25 and can be purchased at the Royal George box office, by calling 312.988.9000 or by visiting ticketmaster.com.
