Promethean Theatre Ensemble Launches 10th Anniversary Season with BRONTE Tonight

Promethean Theatre Ensemble's 10th Anniversary Season begins with Polly Teale's BRONTE, directed by guest artist Jaclynn Jutting.

Contemporary British dramatist Polly Teale's post-modern play imaginatively depicts the lives of three sisters-plain and unwed-who defied social constraints and wrote themselves into immortality by penning the greatest romances of all time. BRONTE delves into the relationships of three sisters compelled to write for different reasons, often at odds with each other, but ultimately, who inspired each other in literature and life. In this transformational play, BRONTE revives our favorite heroes and heroines from Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights, and through an examination of these historic women considers what it means to be a woman today.

BRONTE will be directed by guest artist Jaclynn Jutting. Jutting is a freelance director, working out of Nashville and Chicago, and the head of the B.F.A. Directing program at Belmont University. Directing credits include Simply Bess (Nashville Rep), The Nina Variations (Verge), Animals Out of Paper (Next Up/Steppenwolf Garage), The Iroquois (Raven), Love and Understanding (Redtwist),Enola (the side project), and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, The Life and Times of Tulsa Lovechild and Cloud 9 (Roosevelt University). In addition, she has directed with Steep Theatre, Pride Plays and Films, Northwestern University and Greasy Joan & Co, among others. As the former Associate Artistic Director of Vitalist Theatre, she directed Kobo Abe's The Ghost Is Here, David Hare's The Bay at Nice, for the Suzan-Lori Parks 365 Days/Plays Festival and Brecht's Mother Courage and Her Children (as Associate Director), which won an After Dark Award for Best Direction. She was also the Assistant Director for Sex With Strangers and Up (Steppenwolf) and Mary Zimmerman'sCandide (Goodman). Jutting was also a semifinalist for the 2014 Clare Rosen & Samuel Edes Foundation Prize for Emerging Artists from Northwestern University, where she received her MFA in Directing.

The cast for BRONTE includes Promethean ensemble members Anne Korajczyk (Emily), Janeane Bowlware (Anne) and Jared Dennis (Rochester/Bell Nichols), along with artistic associate John Arthur Lewis (Patrick/Heger). Guest artists include Eleanor Katz (Charlotte), Ashley Fox (Cathy/Bertha) and Ken Miller (Branwell/Heathcliff/Huntington).

In addition to Jutting, the crew for BRONTE includes company members Jeremiah Barr (set design/technical direction), Alexa Berkowitz (stage management), Brendan Hutt (violence design), and artistic associate Catherine Gillespie (dialects). Guest artists include Julie Mack (lighting), Michael Kunc (sound design), Kristen P. Ahern (costumes), Arielle Valene (props), Hazel Flowers-McCabe (assistant stage management), and Kathleen Gullion (assistant direction).

BRONTE will perform in the first floor studio of the Athenaeum Theatre from tonight, January 8-February 7, 2016.
