The Chicago premiere of HIS GREATNESS, Daniel MacIvor's "potentially true" story of two days late in the life of playwright Tennessee Williams, has scheduled additional performances for Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18. Pride Films and Plays Executive Director David Zak, who also directs the production, made the announcement today. Since the production's opening on October 17, it has received rave reviews from critics and audience members alike, prompting the company's decision to add performances to meet demand.

Three men - a great American playwright, his trusted and loyal assistant, and a young Canadian street hustler - find themselves together for two days in a hotel room in Vancouver. The ensuing battle for power, love and loyalty is frequently funny, engagingly dark and ultimately moving. HIS GREATNESS is an intimate insight into the mind of a familiar public figure, grappling with the loss of former glory and desperate for a return to form and success. Pride Films and Plays is presenting the play in The Buena, the 50-seat venue of the Pride Arts Center at 4147 N. Broadway, Chicago though November 18 2017.

The cast includes Danne W. Taylor as "The Playwright," Andrew Kain Miller as "The Assistant," and Whitman Johnson as "The Young Man." "Danne W. Taylor is perfect-addled and sly, sad and sybaritic-as the pseudo Williams." -Tony Adler, Chicago Reader

"David Zak's deftly intuitive direction ensures the realization of every nuance in MacIvor's delicately romantic dialogue. Danne W. Taylor endows Playwright with a leonine dignity always visible beneath the dissipation, as does Whitman Johnson as the Young Man in pursuit of adventure, while Andrew Kain Miller delivers a beguilingly understated performance as the Assistant." - Mary Shen Barnidge, Windy City Times

This may be one of David Zak's finest productions and should not be missed... this is a play that will resonate with audiences from all walks of life. Whether fans of Tennessee Williams, realistic, heartfelt drama or gay-themed theatre, this excellent production is an early Autumn must-see." - Colin Douglas, Chicago Theatre Review

HIS GREATNESS had its world premiere in Vancouver in 2007 and its U.S. Premiere at the New York Fringe Festival in 2009. Since then, it has enjoyed major productions in Toronto in 2011 and in London in 2012.

The TORONTO STAR called it "a beautiful play, made up of equal amounts of laughter and tears." Toronto's THE GLOBE AND MAIL said HIS GREATNESS is "a dark rumination on the burden of fame and the pain of failure" and that MacIvor's writing includes "lines that could have been lifted from Williams's writings."
