Photo Flash: OH HI, JOHNNY! Tears Audiences Apart At The Chicago Musical Theatre Festival

By: Feb. 12, 2019

The new hit parody musical that's sure to tear you apart is here! OH HI, JOHNNY!- The "Room-sical" Parody has opened in Chicago, with Ian Rigg starring as Tommy Wiseau.

Ian Rigg is a Jeff-nominated actor whose recent credits include Hypnosis at Towle Theater, Aspire Production's original web series The Collector, and playing Nicholas Cage (as Superman) at Chicago live-lit staple The Skewer.

He is joined by Connar Brown as Lisa, Kyle Masteller as Mark, Dylan Todd as Denny, Coleen Tutton as Claudette, Natalie Rae as Michelle, Micah Hilson as Mike, Anthony Logan Cole as Chris-R, Cynthia Hindmon as the Florist Shop Owner, and Sissy Anne Quaranta as the Stage Manager.

The production will run February 5th-23rd as part of Underscore Theatre Company's Chicago Musical Theatre Festival, and follows a sold out premiere at the 2018 Orlando Fringe Festival, where it was awarded Patron's Pick.

OH HI, JOHNNY! features a book and direction by Bryan Jager (The Spielers, (white) Hamilton), with music & lyrics by Alex Syiek(The Pokémusical, Giraffenstein). The production also features choreography by Jarrett Poore, musical direction by Benjamin Walton, and is produced by The RagTag Collective (headed by Dana Searing and Jarrett Poore).

Based on the 2003 cult hit, "The Room", the new parody musical imagines what would happen if the film's writer, director, producer, and star (Tommy Wiseau) were allowed free reign of the stage adaptation. What follows is Tennessee Williams by way of Jerry Herman in a comedic farce complete with interpretive sex scenes, tuxedo football, and spoons.

Dubbed the "Citizen Kane" of bad movies, "The Room" has gained a cult following in recent years. A film based upon a behind the scenes tell all, "The Disaster Artist", opened in theaters last December starring James Franco.

Tickets are currently on sale for the Chicago Musical Theatre Festival and can be purchased online Here.
