By: Gabrielle Sierra
Lookingglass Theatre Company's production of Our Future Metropolis: Mr. D.H. Burnham Presents a Plain Talk for the Development of Chicago, adapted and directed by Ensemble Member John Musial, featuring Ensemble Member Raymond Fox, has been selected as part of One Book, One Chicago's fall 2009 programming. The production will play in the Cindy Pritzker Auditorium of the Harold Washington Library, 400 S. State Street, on Monday, September 14, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. with a post-show discussion with Jean Linsner, Vice President of Youth Education, Chicago Architecture Foundation and Bill Savage, Senior Lecturer of Northwestern University.
Lookingglass Theatre originally presented this one-man performance in July 2009 as part of The Burnham Centennial. The performance recreates the initial presentation of Burnham's Plan to the public. Musial's staging brings out the genius in Burnham's project while visually linking his plan with today's Chicago through both authentic original slides and modern-day photography.Lookingglass, the only theater company that participated in the region-wide Burnham Plan Centennial, is proud to pay tribute to this important part of Chicago's history. The one-man production celebrates the anniversary of Burnham's groundbreaking plan that led to Chicago's sweeping lakefront, the "emerald necklace" of County Forest Preserves, and a tradition of bold plans and big dreams.Title: Our Future Metropolis: Mr. D.H.
