Music Theater Works Names Kyle Dougan Producing Artistic Director Designate Music Theater Works has announced the appointment of Kyle Dougan as Producing Artistic Director Designate, effective October 1, 2018, and the retirement of General Manager Bridget McDonough and Artistic Director Rudy Hogenmiller, effective January, 2020.

McDonough was one of the company's founders in 1980 (as Light Opera Works). Hogenmiiler has been with the organization since 2004. Both will work closely with Dougan and Music Director Roger Bingaman (who remains in his post) during the next 15 months to ensure a smooth transition.

McDonough says, "Kyle Dougan came to Light Opera Works (as we were then known) as an intern in 2009, after receiving his Masters Degree in Musical Theater from Goldsmiths, University of London. He worked with the company in various capacities for the next seven years. After a two-year stint in academia, he returns 'home' with enthusiasm! His love of all music theater, as well as experience in producing, casting, directing, fundraising, and teaching, will be invaluable as he assumes his new role. Kyle fully endorses our mission of presenting classic music theater in large productions with full orchestra at Cahn Auditorium, as well as special events at Nichols Concert Hall."

She adds, "Our board of directors has been working on a transition plan for the past several years, with input and endorsement from me and Rudy. We know the company will be in good hands and our subscribers and patrons can look forward to many more seasons of professional music theater on the North Shore."

In London, Dougan produced and directed a workshop of new musicals at University of London and stage managed a series of new musicals with Perfect Pitch: New Musicals at Trafalgar Studios. In the Chicago area he has directed, associate-directed and assistant-directed shows for Chamber Opera Chicago, Theatre at the Center, Big Noise Theater and The Music Theatre Company. He also served as artistic producer of a series of new musicals with Midwest New Musicals, as executive director of FWD Theatre Project and as co-owner of Style Theatrical Casting, a professional casting company in Chicago.

The Music Theater Works 2019 season will open with the Pulitzer Prize-winning HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING (June 8-16), followed by the Chicago professional premiere of THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME (August 17-25), LERNER AND LOEWE'S GREATEST HITS (October 4-13), and JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT (December 21-31).
The current 2018 season concludes with Judy Garland; COME RAIN OR COME SHINE, STARRING Angela Ingersoll October 5-14, 2018, and INTO THE WOODS, December 22-31 2018.

The October Judy Garland and Lerner and Loewe concerts are at Nichols Concert Hall in Evanston. All other productions are at the company's home venue, Cahn Auditorium in Evanston.

Music Theater Works (formerly Light Opera Works) is a resident professional not-for-profit theater in Evanston, founded in 1980. The company's mission is to produce and present musical theater from a variety of world traditions, to engage the community through educational and outreach programs and to train artists in musical theater. All productions are presented in English, with foreign works done in carefully edited modern translations. Maximum scholarship is employed to preserve the original vocal and orchestral material as well as the spirit of the original text whenever possible. Audiences know that at Music Theater Works they will experience repertoire often unavailable on the stages of commercial theaters and opera houses, in modern productions with professional artists and full orchestra.
