LIGHT OPERA WORKS Moves to Wilmette
By: Kelsey Denette
On September 16, 2011, Light Opera Works left its 31-year home at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center in Evanston, and moved to a new administrative office and rehearsal center at 516 4th Street in Wilmette, Illinois.
Glenn Moak, owner of Duxler Complete Auto Care, has offered a generous five-year lease on the property, former site of Duxler Tire Center. The converted facility will house the company's new administrative office as well as a dedicated rehearsal space.Until now, Light Opera Works rehearsed its productions wherever affordable spaces could be found, mainly church basements and school cafeterias. These venues (with concrete floors, obstructing poles and low ceilings), posed problems in rehearsing large musical numbers. The configurations were different from the stage at Evanston's Cahn Auditorium (where the company continues to present their mainstage productions), requiring adjustments when shows moved in for technical rehearsals and performances.Videos
