Jazz Vocalist Rachael Price Plays The The Center for Performing Arts at GSU

By:

With command performances for Sir Elton John and Robert Goulet in her recent past,
23 year-old Rachael Price brings her signature sultry jazz vocals to The Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University for a night of intimate cabaret-style entertainment Saturday, Feb. 27 at 8 p.m. This live concert event features Price singing classic hits by jazz legends such as Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee and Anita O'Day, accompanied by her trio of Warren Wolf on piano and vibes, Erik Privert on bass and Dave Brophy on drums. "Price is right for jazz stardom," raves The Boston Herald, while the Los Angeles Times recognizes that she is "clearly a talent with extraordinary potential." Single tickets are now on sale, priced at just $37 and available at centertickets.net or by calling The Center's friendly Box Office staff at (708) 235-2222.

Rachael Price is the second artist featured in the new 2010 "The Cabaret at The Center" series. The three-part series allows audiences to enjoy the experience of sitting on The Center's stage with the band as it is transformed into a 1940s-style cabaret club complete with table seating for 250, full cash bar and snacks available for purchase.

Price has already had a lengthy career. From standing ovations at the Newport Jazz Festival, to completing a degree in Jazz Studies at the New England Conservatory, Price has done it all. In 2003, she was selected as a vocalist by the Grammy Foundation for its National High School Jazz Choir. She went on to become the youngest semi-finalist in both the Montreaux International Jazz Vocal Competition in Europe and the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition.

Price's love affair with jazz music began when she was just a small child growing up in Tennessee. Price was discovered by six-time Grammy nominee Nnenna Freelon while performing in Switzerland. She has been touring and recording ever since. At age 17, Price debuted her first recording "Dedicated to You" featuring hits by Ella Fitzgerald and Doris Day. Fast forward to 2010, as the young songstress is currently working on her fourth album with legendary producer KC Porter featuring notable studio artists like Brian Bromberg, Vinnie Colaiuta, Dean Parks and Shelly Berg.
