The Janus Theatre Company will open its 18th season on November 6th when it presents the Chicago-area premiere of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's King of Shadows. The play runs through November 22nd at the Elgin Art Showcase inside the Professional Building, up on the 8th floor, located at 164 Division Street in downtown Elgin. The production will be presented on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm. Tickets are $16 and can be purchased at www.janusplays.com.

"We wanted to start our season off with something a bit supernatural," said Artistic Director Sean Hargadon. "What's interesting about this story is that it takes a familiar Shakespeare play and makes you think about what really happened. It's a whole new interpretation."

The King of Shadows is a thriller loosely inspired by A Midsummer Night's Dream, where a fifteen-year-old runaway named Nihar is living on the streets, hustling to survive. When he meets a well-intentioned (and well-off) graduate student named Jessica, he tells her an unbelievable story-there is a mythical world beneath our world, ruled by the King of Shadows. Nihar claims the terrifying, demon-like creature is hunting San Francisco's homeless population, trying to find him.

"The play is like a Stephen King novel mixed in with a CSI episode," said Hargadon. "It plays fast and is mysterious, leaving the audience's imagination to try and figure out what's real and what's just a tall tale."

King of Shadows is directed by Artistic Director Sean Hargadon (Elgin) with Stage Manager, Tara Schuman (Carpentersville), design elements by Bobby Roland (Elgin), and technical elements by Rob Switzer (Elgin). The cast includes Jaime Patriarca (Chicago), Christopher Sylvie (Lombard), Melody Jefferies (Carol Stream) and Joe Cattoggio (Chicago).
