Jackalope Theater Announces RICH AND FAMOUS by John Guare, 2/21-3/16

By:

Jackalope Theater Company is thrilled to announce the second play of its 2012/13 season, John Guare's RICH AND FAMOUS. February 21-March 16, at The Den Theatre, Thursdays-Sundays at 7:00pm, tickets $10-$15.

New York City is glimmering on opening night of Bing Ringling's first produced play (and the 844th he's written). With a star producer behind him and his loving girlfriend in the show, Bing's big dreams and hard work have finally landed him onthe Great White Way. But when the show is a flop, his producer backs out and his girlfriend leaves him, and even the interest of the world's biggest movie star can't bring the production back from its early grave. Holding the jagged pieces of his life's work in his hands, Bing embarks on phantasmagoric odyssey to the people and places that shaped him, trying to salvage his reputation in a system that has a mind of its own.

Guare writes in his signature style, blending comedy, music, absurdity, truth, and
painful disillusionment, forcing Bing to finally consider the true costs of being rich and famous.
John Guare is an award-winning playwright known for a unique style that forgoes
naturalism in favor of absurd theatrical magic that slices directly into the dreams and failures of his characters. His work includes Lydie Breeze; Bosoms and Neglect; The House of Blue Leaves, (1972 Tony Award - Best Musical), Two Gentlemen of Verona and Six Degrees of Separation, among many many others. His 1980 screenplay for Louis Malle's Atlantic City earned him an Oscar nomination, and in 2005 he received the Obie for sustained excellence. 2011 saw A Free Man of Color on Broadway, and Are You There McPhee at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton.

Guare's latest work, Three Kinds of Exile, will premiere at the Atlantic Theatre in May 2013.
NATE SILVER is a Chicago-based director whose credits include Caryl Churchill's Far Away
(winterfall chicago), Ross Tedford Kendall's Gambit (Artemisia), and Tyler Dean's Run-of-theMill (CUT). In New York he assisted Kimberly Senior on Disgraced (Lincoln Center Theater)
and Elise Thoron on County of Kings (Public Theater) and wrote, developed and directed the
National Student Leadership Conference's summer Theater Program.

Other favorite directing credits are John Guare's Cop-Out, Shakespeare's Richard III and Hamlet: The First Quarto, Caryl Churchill's The Skriker, and his own stage adaptation of Jonathan Lynn's Clue, an interactive murder mystery based on the popular feature film. He is a graduate of Vassar College.
