InnateVolution Theater Productions Presents ADRIFT IN MACAO, Closes 5/29

By:

InnateVolution Theater Productions presents its first musical! The Chicago Premiere of Adrift in Macao the new musical comedy by Christopher Durang (Book & Lyrics) & Peter Melnick (Music). Set in 1952 Macao, China, Adrift in Macao is a loving parody of film noir movies. Everyone that comes to Macao is waiting for something, and though none of them know exactly what that is, they hang around to find out. The characters include your film noir standards, like Lureena, the curvaceous blonde, who luckily bumps into Rick Shaw, the cynical Surf and Turf casino owner, her first night in town. She ends up getting a job singing in his night club - perhaps for no reason other than the fact that she looks great in a slinky dress. And don't forget about Mitch, the American who has just been framed for murder by the mysterious villain McGuffin. With songs and quips, puns and farcical shenanigans, this musical parody is bound to please audiences.

Adrift in Macao concludes performances on May 29, 2011 at The Call Bar, located in the Andersonville Neighborhood of Chicago, 1547 West Bryn Mawr Chicago, IL 60660. The musical play runs Sundays Only at 7:30pm. Tickets for regular performances are $25.00 which includes 1 well, house wine or Miller Lite. Discount Tickets for Students, Industry and Senior Citizens are available. Tickets may be purchased by calling 312.513.1415 or by visiting www.innatevolution.org.

"The songs are catchy and contagious! Adrift in Macao is a musical farce that's ridiculously funny yet relevant and relatable. Everyone is waiting for something whether it's the economy to improve, finding work or a lasting relationship" said Artistic Director Toma Tavares Langston. "It allows us to laugh at the absurd occurrences in our lives and we need a good laugh right now."

Some of the musical numbers include In a Foreign City, Mister McGuffin, Mambo Malaysian, and Ticky, Ticky Tock. "Featuring a young, energetic cast, Adrift in Macao brings you back to the bygone era of femme fatales, private dicks, and beautifully inaccurate history" said Musical Director Paul Rigano. "Durang delightfully examines how Hollywood in the forties and fifties could make the grittiest of settings
truly glamorous. You'll feel like you're watching Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall again! A really fun night of theatre, sure to please!"

Paul Rigano (Musical Director) is still relatively new to Chicago, having moved here from New York last summer. Paul musical directed several shows in NY, including the world premiere of Central Park: The Musical! in Manhattan, Reefer Madness! and Babes in Arms at SUNY New Paltz. Paul was also the pianist at Marvin Hamlisch's 60th Birthday Celebration at the Bruno Walter Auditorium in Lincoln Center.
