Infamous Commonwealth Theatre (ICT) opens the first production of their 2011 season dedicated to the topic Sacrifice with Henrik Ibsen's A Dolls House, directed by ICT Artistic Director Chris Maher.

SAC-RI-FICE (noun): destruction or surrender of something for the sake of something else.

New York City, 1962. As America hovers on the cusp of a second-wave feminist movement whose effects are felt to this day, Nora Helmer is a woman lost. Her entire life, Nora has defined herself by what she is to others-daughter, mother, wife, friend. Now she lives in a beautiful home with a husband and children who adore her, yet often feel like strangers. But after a dark secret from the past comes back to haunt her, Nora is finally forced to face the underlying realities of her carefully constructed existence.

Director Chris Maher has lived in Chicago since 1997. Upon arrival, he served as Artistic Director for the now defunct East Window Theatre Company. He directed Say Goodnight Gracie for them in 1999. He joined Open Eye Productions in 2001 and became artistic director in 2004. His Open Eye directing credits include Christopher Durang's Titanic, You Can't Take It With You, Assassins, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (Jeff Recommended), Trust (Jeff Recommended), and The Solid Gold Cadillac. In 2008 Mr. Maher directed the Midwest Premiere of Robert Schenkkan's Lewis & Clark Reach the Euphrates (Jeff Recommended) for Infamous Commonwealth. He became their Artistic Director in 2009. This past spring, Mr. Maher directed ICT's Jeff Award winning production of The Crucible.
