Highland Park Players to Host Workshop Series Directed by Dominic Missimi

Highland Park Players is holding a workshop series on THE GLORIOUS BROADWAY MUSICAL featuring professor and professional director, Dominic Missimi Founder of Northwestern Music Theatre Program, Marriott Theatre Director of 35 productions, Founder of Northwestern's American Music Theatre Project and 17 year director of Northwestern's famed Waa-Mu Show.

Who: Open to all ages

When: Monday, June 12, 19, 26 and July 10 - 7 pm to 8:30 pm

Where: West Ridge Center, 636 Ridge Road in Highland Park

MONDAY, JUNE 12: 7pm - 9:00pm

MASTERPIECES OF THE AMERICAN MUSICAL

Lecture, slides and film clips from the greatest musicals of Broadway history. Mr. Missimi will provide commentary on SHOWBOAT, OKLAHOMA, KISS ME KATE, WEST SIDE STORY, PHANTOM OF THE OPERA and a survey of America's most Illustrious writers for the Broadway musical.

MONDAY, JUNE 19: 7pm - 8:30pm

SO WHAT'S A CONCEPT MUSICAL?

Missimi explores the revolutionary new approach to creating musicals that began with CABARET and moved on to CHICAGO, A CHORUS LINE, the musicals of Stephen Sondheim, HAIR, PIPPIN, and the British Invasion. The current sensation HAMILTON will also be discussed as well as Broadway's new voices who are creating tomorrow's classics.

MONDAY, JUNE 26: 7pm - 8:30pm

BROADWAY'S GREATEST PERFORMERS

From the legendary Ethel Merman to the brilliant Lin Manuel Miranda, Missimi examines the actors who have shaped the great American musical with their brilliant singing, dancing and acting. This session will feature many clips that demonstrate the talents of Broadway's Tony Award winning performers. The lecture will feature the work of vocalists like Julie Andrews, Bernadette Peters and Audra McDonald, as well as triple threat performers Gwen Verdon and Chita Rivera.

MONDAY, JULY 10: 7pm - 8:30pm

PUTTING YOUR BEST FOOT FORWARD

How to Audition for the Musical? After 45 years of casting musicals, Missimi examines the necessary ingredients of a successful musical audition, from choosing the best audition song to what to wear. Missimi will critique several actors who will present audition material to the group. This session will be excellent preparation for Highland Park Players PAJAMA GAME auditions which will be conducted by Mr. Missimi, the director; Aaron Kaplan, the music director, and Dina DiCostanzo, the choreographer on July 13-17.
