Heather Moran brings the music of Rosemary Clooney alive at Skokie Theatre
“Rosie! A Tribute…” is a loving musical adventure spanning the 40 year career of the great Girl Singer, Rosemary Clooney. Heather Moran has deftly created a musical tapestry from the colorful life of Clooney, spanning from her birth in Maysville, Kentucky, through her setbacks in the late 1960’s, her mid 1970’s comeback, all the way to her death in 2002. Heather has assembled some of Chicago’s hottest jazz musicians and guest performers to round out engaging evening of stories and song. Though the cast included several fine singers—all members of Chicago Cabaret Professionals, a non-profit advocacy group—one stood out. Even if she hadn't been evoking the style and era of Clooney, Heather Moran would have deserved the ovations she received for the bloom of her tone and the nuance of her interpretations...Certainly Moran's ultra-slow and wistful account of "Hey There" pointed poetically to the older-wiser chapters of Clooney's career. Yet on a dime she turned around and romped through "Botch-A-Me" and "Mambo Italiano," lavishing plenty of spirit on the tunes and giving them more credibility than they rightly deserved..."
