Performing continuously for the last two years, the burlesque parody A NUDE HOPE has performed to thousands - over 7,600 as a matter of fact - audience members since its opening on July 9, 2011.
A NUDE HOPE: A STAR WARS BURLESQUE revolves around a sexually frustrated farmer, Luke Skywalker, who is longing to rescue the luscious Princess Leia, prisoner of the sadomasochistic villain, Darth Vader. He receives some help along the way from a few malfunctioning droids, a rouge she-hunk named Han Solo and a Wookie companion (who never wears pants!) to rescue her heiney-ness. Of course, along to guide them is the senile but sensual Obi-Wan-Kenobi. Join this motley crew of geek girls as they take you on a burlesque parody journey of bad haircuts, oddly sexy aliens, cheap special effects, and disco groves. Don't make us FORCE you to come!
Timothy Bambara (Director) has been producing, directing and acting in Chicago for the past five years and is a recipient of the 2008 CAAP Grant. Favorite directing credits include "Sexual Perversity in Chicago", "Of Mice and Men", "Glengarry Glen Ross", "The Cook" (asst. dir. to Henry Godinez, Goodman Theatre), "Twelfth Night" (asst. dir. to Jay Paul Skelton, City Lit), "Den of Thieves" and "Where's My Money?" (Dramatis Personae), "Wonderful" and "Ozma and Harriet" (Tympanic Theatre Company) and "The Rise of Emperor Eric" (Gorilla Tango Theatre).
Mary Catherine Curran (Playwright) is from a galaxy not so far, far away called Maryland. She is a graduate of the Second City Conservatory and iO. You can see her around town performing with her independent improv/sketch teams, The SufferJets, Norma Rae, and Sweet Tired Kitten, and elsewhere.
Rachel Singer (Choreographer) graduated from Colorado State University with a B.S. in Psychology and minor in Design and Technical Theatre. In 2007 she was accepted into the Build Shop Internship at Redmoon Theater where she was able to develop her passion for Puppetry, Mask, and Spectacle Theatre. Rachel is a member of the Tacky Annies dance troupe, which specializes in vernacular jazz dances from the early part of the 20th century including Charleston and Blues dancing. She performs and teaches Middle Eastern Dance, Charleston, Burlesque and Prop Based Dance.
Featuring a rotating cast of GTB performers including Bottom-Heavy Betty, Dottie Comma, Estrella Von Trapp, Juicy Lucy, Kaylee Williams, Kitty Kaboom, Lucita Bonita, Mai Atari, Miss Kitty Oaks, Mo Less, Peaches N. Cream, Ruby Bourbon, Slightly Spitfire, Sweet Ginger Rose, Tallulah Twist, The Dame of Chance, Whiskey Collins, and Zatanna Zor-Elle.
In October 2010 Gorilla Tango Theatre dared to throw their hat into the burlesque ring with the now critically acclaimed BOOBS AND GOOMBAS: A SUPER MARIO BURLESQUE and they haven't looked back since! Seeking to mix burlesque with a more traditionally theatrical approach, the result is a fusion form of parody and burlesque which feature all female casts, allowing some of Chicago's premiere female comedic talent to shine. Gorilla Tango Burlesque is an unstoppable force in story-based, plot-integrated burlesque. Other GTB shows include: "Don't Blink: A Doctor Who Burlesque," "The Empire Brings Sexy Back: A Star Wars Burlesque Sequel," "Temple of Boobs: An Indiana Jones Burlesque," "Holy Bouncing Boobies: A Batman Burlesque" among others! Consult the website (www.gorillatango.com) for more shows, tickets and more information.
