THEN, ONE NIGHT is the first arts project residency for Chicago Lab, a new program under development at Jonny Stax Presents. These residencies are full-term engagements to support arts creators throughout the creation process of a new idea from inception to realization. Through this residency, lab mentors have supported Lacy Katherine Campbell's THEN, ONE NIGHT through strategic and business planning, documentation and evaluation, clarity and encouragement, and artistic feedback. Jonny Stax Presents also brokered space for rehearsal and presentation with their Lab partners at Teatro Luna, North Shore Baptist Church, and Stage 773.

Presentation of THEN, ONE NIGHT will happen at Luna Central, 3914 N. Clark Street Chicago: performances tonight, October 31, November 7, 14, and 21; all shows at 8pm. Cost is $15; $10 for previews. Each presentation of THEN, ONE NIGHT this fall will be followed by a brief "Creators Salon" where attendees can discuss creative process and meet the artists.

Jonny Stax Presents a new Creators Lab

Jonny Stax Presents was founded by Jonathan Stacks and Scott Bradley to guide the development of new creative ventures. This fall they focus their collective attention on the formation of a creators lab where artists and minds from across industries and communities embark on new ventures, share practices, and cross-pollinate visions. As part of this new lab, they are piloting a project-based arts residency program that subsidizes artists' access to mentorship services and resources.

As both a theatrical producer and a leader in Chicago's social justice and education arenas, Jonathan Stacks has built a name for himself as a visionary in ideation methodology and a go-to professional for strategy expertise. Scott Bradley has a national reputation as an innovative theatrical artist and champion of new artistic works. As The Scooty & JoJo Show, they have fused these forces to develop some of Chicago's most popular and successful cult hits of recent years. For more information, visit jonnystax.com.

THEN, ONE NIGHT: description, creator biography and creative team

THEN, ONE NIGHT is an original, wordless play that explores storytelling through visual art, puppetry, and music. Inspired by wordless picture books, Then, One Night plunges us into a hushed world of lifelike, expressive puppets, a cinematic score, and over 400 hand-drawn and painted images.

Showcasing female artists, performers, and protagonists, THEN, ONE NIGHT tells the story of a lonely young girl and the teacher she loves more than anything in the world - on the night they learn they will never see each other again. Through one last bittersweet night of storytelling, our characters discover how to hold on to what they value most, and that no ending is written in stone.

THEN, ONE NIGHT has two unique characteristics: absence of language and an interchangeable "frame story" structure. Both open the door to a myriad of exciting opportunities: presenting affordable, live theater to communities underserved by Chicago's theater scene due to language barriers, bringing together audiences of disparate backgrounds, and laying the groundwork for future collaborative presentations.

Lacy Katherine Campbell is a Chicago-based theater artist who focuses on non-traditional, visceral storytelling. She is a director, performer, and teacher with Barrel of Monkeys and a Redmoon Theater Collaborator. Her work as a designer, actor, writer, director and producer, is marked by lush visual design, sharp comedic timing, and an infectious atmosphere of joy and magic. In 2009 Lacy wrote, designed, and performed in "Beowulf vs. Grendel," a 25-minute deconstruction of "Beowulf" using live music, 3 actors, and 92 plastic dolls. As an actor, she has appeared on Boss, ER, The Chicago Code, and perform at various theaters across Chicago.
