Stepping Out uses Irish melodies and traditional steps to tell about the immigrant experience. Fiddler Athena Tergis (who performed in "Riverdance on Broadway") conceived the story of Stepping Out, which was fleshed out by choreographers Alan Scariff and Ciarán Connolly.
It centers on young lovers Ciara and Aidan (portrayed in by principal dancers Ciara Faber and Dylan Miller), who decide to leave their homeland behind and travel across the Atlantic to the New World. Along their uncharted journey, they encounter homesickness and romantic rivalry before finding happiness together.
As the storyline unfurls over two acts, audiences see and hear how Irish ideas fused with other immigrant traditions like African rhythms to create tap dancing and influence American roots music.
