Hailing from Mazatlan, Mexico, dance company Delfos Danza Contemporánea makes its Ravinia debut on Friday, Aug. 27, with the piece When Disguises Are Hung Up (Cuando los Difraces se Cuelgan), with additional performances at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28 and 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 29.

These Bennett • Gordon Hall performances celebrate the 200th anniversary of Mexican independence, and are also part of Ravinia's Ruth Page Festival of Dance celebrating the late dancer/choreographer. Founded in 1992 by Mexican choreographers/dancers Claudia Lavista and Victor Manuel Ruiz, Delfos Danza Contemporánea has a vision of creating dynamic new works characterized by fluid physicality and dramatic narratives, as well as developing a professional training program for contemporary dancers. Their work has been presented throughout Mexico as well as Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Panama, Bolivia, Peru, Canada, the United States, Italy, Spain, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea and Greece. The company has received the Mexican National Dance Award and was named Best Dance Company in Mexico by the Critics Union, the Artistic Merit Award in Brazil. Prior to the Aug. 28 performance, a panel discussion with Mario Lavista will take place at 4:30 p.m. in Bennett • Gordon Hall. The discussion will be moderated by composer Elbio Barilari featuring composer Shulamit Ran and conductor and scholar Carmen Helena Téllez.
