Circle Theatre Presents ALMOST AN EVENING, Now thru 7/1

By:

In a return to its Studio Productions, Circle Theatre presents ALMOST AN EVENING by Ethan Coen, one of the Academy Award winning Coen Brothers.

Almost an Evening is a dark comic trio of plays that explore the theme of hell--both here and hereafter--featuring the worst clerical error in eternity; an unlikely steam room encounter; and a heated debate between God and, well...God. Written by Ethan Coen (of the Coen brothers of Fargo, No Country for Old Men and The Big Lebowski fame), Circle will present this quirky trinity in the studio space next to our Mainstage.

J. Christopher Brown is a director, actor, and teaching artist in the Chicago area. Recent Circle productions include Twelfth Night and Alice in Wonderland for Circle Theatre’s Emerging Young Artists program. Chris directed the premieres of Let Them Eat Cake by Jill Olson and Promises by Jeremiah Howe at Gorilla Tango Theatre. Chris worked as assistant director for Keira Fromm on Redtwist Theatre’s production of Lobby Hero, which was Jeff - nominated for Best Production and Best Director. Other directing credits include American Buffalo, Topdog/Underdog, and A Tell-Tale Heart, which Chris also adapted.

The cast includes David Besky, Chris Carr, Ian Paul Custer, Bridget Haight, Jim Heatherly, Daniel Ochoa, Bobby Rafferty, Katelyn Smith, Stephanie Stockstill  and Matt Thinnes

Celebrating its 27th season, Circle Theatre is an artist-based company and the proud recipient of over 40 Jeff Awards. Circle has produced multiple world premieres, including Rebecca Gilman’s The Glory of Living and The Crime of the Century, Jon Steinhagen’s The Analytical Engine, the Midwest premiere of Michael John LaChiusa’s The Wild Party, and the Chicago premieres of Marvin Hamlisch’s Sweet Smell of Success, Jeff Daniels’ Escanaba In Da Moonlight, Adam Rapp’s Stone Cold Dead Serious, and in our 2011-2012 season, When the Rain Stops Falling.

The theatre is located at 1010 Madison Street in Oak Park (**Please note Circle’s new performance location**)
