Chicago Theatre Offers Evening Marquee Tours, Now thru 12/18

The Chicago Theatre announced today a series of specialty evening Marquee Tours of the venue as part of the Chicago Loop Alliance Winter WonderLoop program. Limited evening tours will be offered at 6pm on Tuesday, December 4; Tuesday December 11; and Tuesday, December 18.

The Chicago Theatre Marquee Tour is a one-hour walking tour that highlights the beautiful historical and architectural detailing of the legendary venue, including the grand lobby and majestic auditorium. Visitors will also be invited backstage where some of the world’s brightest stars have graced the stage and autographed the dressing room walls and corridors, including Frank Sinatra, Liza Minnelli, and Beyoncé. Tour guides will share stories and anecdotes about the visionaries who first opened The Chicago Theatre and whose influence on popular entertainment is still recognized today. Additionally, visitors will have the opportunity to view the large-scale photo exhibit in The Chicago Theatre's lower lobby, 'Chicago: Three Centuries of Theatres.

Located in the heart of the Loop's theatre district, The Chicago Theatre is a historic landmark that opened in 1921 as a lavish movie palace. Built in the French Baroque style, the venue’s exterior features a miniature replica of Paris' Arc de Triomphe, sculpted above its State Street marquee. The grand lobby is modeled after the Royal Chapel at Versailles and surrounded by gallery promenades at the mezzanine and balcony levels. The grand staircase is patterned after the Paris Opera House and ascends to the Great Balcony. The 3,600-seat auditorium is seven stories high, more than one-half of a city block wide, and nearly as long. The vertical sign "C-H-I-C-A-G-O," at nearly six stories high, is a symbol of State Street and Chica … Morego.

The tours will take place on Tuesdays, December 4, 11 and 18 at 6 p.m. at The Chicago Theatre. Tickets are on sale now: $12 Adult; $10 Children.
