Chi Phil is thrilled to present Side by Side with the Chicago Philharmonic at Columbus Park Refectory on Sunday, August 5, in Chicago's west side for the fourth year straight. This signature outreach program, presented as part of the Chicago Park District's Night Out in the Parks series, invites diverse musicians of all ages and backgrounds to rehearse and perform alongside Chi Phil musicians in Chicago's beautiful parks. This concert is the third of six Side by Side concerts in 2018, with the first two successful concerts of the year reaching over 130 community musicians and nearly 1000 audience members.

Led by Chi Phil Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Scott Speck, the orchestra will perform works by composers such as Florence Price, musical prodigy and key figure in the Chicago Black Renaissance, as well as Manuel De Falla, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, John Williams and more. Students and community musicians will rehearse with the orchestra and conductor at 3:00pm at the beautiful Columbus Park Refectory, with a free concert following at 6:00pm. Participation and audience attendance is free and open to the public, and audience members are encouraged to bring a picnic to enjoy with the concert. The program will be as follows:

Key: Star Spangled Banner

Williams: Star Wars Suite: Main Title

De Falla: Danza Española

Anderson: Fiddle Faddle

Mascagni: Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana

Brahms: Symphony No. 4, Mvmt 3

Price: Symphony No. 1, Mvmt 3

Sousa: Liberty Bell March

Tchaikovsky: 1812 Overture Finale

Sousa: Stars and Stripes Forever
