Boston Globe Pulizer Prize-Winning Journalist Michael Rezendes Comes to the MAC

McAninch Arts Center (MAC) located at 425 Fawell Blvd. on the campus of College of DuPage showcases Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Michael Rezendes in "The Man Behind Spotlight" a special lecture event Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. Rezendes will address the role of the investigative reporter and the power of journalism in a world of "Fake News" and talk about his newest projects, including reporting on the children of Catholic Priests and the reimagining of healthcare in Bridgewater State Hospital. A book signing with Rezendes will take place in the MAC lobby immediately following the program.

Rezendes is a member of The Boston Globe Spotlight team that received the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for investigating and reporting the cover-up of sexual abuse in the Roman Catholic Church which inspired "Spotlight," the Academy Award-winning biographical crime drama.

In his more than two decades with the Globe, Rezendes has investigated a wide array of additional subjects, including the September 11 attacks, health care costs and prison suicides. While working with the Spotlight Team, he has been a Pulitzer Prize finalist twice, once in 2007 for an investigation of the debt collection industry, and again in 2017 for an exposé of the mental health care system in Massachusetts. Rezendes, who continues to work as an investigative reporter for The Boston Globe where his current series is entitled: An Invisible Legion of Suffering: the Stories of Children of Priests." Rezendes is a co-author of two books: "Betrayal: The Crisis in the Catholic Church," and, "Sin Against the Innocents: Sexual Abuse by Priests and the Role of the Catholic Church."

Before arriving at The Boston Globe, Rezendes was a staff writer at The Washington Post, and a government and politics reporter for the San Jose Mercury News and the Boston Phoenix. He was also a contributing writer at Boston magazine and the editor of the East Boston Community News. Rezendes holds a BA in English from Boston University.
