Inspired by the hit TV show, GLEE, the NFT Performing Arts Academy announces the new Youth Ensemble Show Choir! This singing and dancing based program will rehearse and perform this fall at Pheasant Run Resort (4051 E. Main St., St. Charles, IL; admin telephone 630-443-0438).

Geared for ages 12-18, participants will combine choral singing with dance movements, and will develop vocal expertise by honing technical skills such as music reading, listening and intonation. Group members will develop attributes such as teamwork, self-discipline, and self-confidence. The Show Choir will perform at Noble Fool Theatricals, local events and will eventually participate in competitions.

Musical numbers for this session will include songs by Josh Grobin, Alicia Keys and Dixie Chicks as well as Sleigh Ride and Baby, It's Cold Outside. A free concert is scheduled for December 14th at 8pm at Pheasant Run.

Award-winning director Tom Clear is eager for auditions and rehearsal to begin. Tom has been involved as a performer, pianist, or musical director in over 260 musicals and variety shows, including Musical of Musicals, the Musical! and Some Enchanted Evening at Noble Fool Theatricals. For five years, he directed his own award-winning Show Choir at the French American International School of Portland, Oregon. Tom has served as Assistant Director/Accompanist for the national award-winning Show Choir at Villa Duchesne/Oak Hill School in St. Louis. This fall, Tom also assumes the directorship of the Show Choir of the Music Institute of Chicago.

"At a recent party, I went around asking people if they'd ever been in show choir; almost everybody had, and said they loved it. They even remembered routines, numbers from years ago," says Tom Clear. "That's my goal - for everybody to have a memorable time, through the magic of show choir. You don't have to have a great voice, or be able to do triple pirouettes: Just come, and be ready to have fun!"

Open auditions will be held on the Preservation Hall Studio Stage at Pheasant Run on Thursday, October 15, from 6:30 - 8:00pm or Sunday, October 18 from 6:00 - 8:00pm. No appointment is necessary.

Interested teens should prepare and memorize 32 bars of a song. Bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. Dance training is helpful, but not necessary; all will be taught a dance routine. Bring shoes to dance in. Please bring a headshot and a resume.
