Adventure Stage Chicago presents the first play in this season's New Play Workshop Series: a reading of Sharon Creech's Walk Two Moons, newly adapted by Adventure Stage's Producing Artistic Director Tom Arvetis and directed by Matthew Reeder.

Walk Two Moons chronicles thirteen-year-old Sal's cross-country journey with her grandparents and the life lessons she learns along the way. Walk Two Moons was the recipient of the 1995 Newbery Medal, as well as the United Kingdom Reading Association Award, United Kingdom's Children's Book Award, Austria's Literaturhaus Award and the Young Adult Sequoyah Award.

Tom Arvetis (playwright) is the founder and Producing Artistic Director of Adventure Stage Chicago. Previous playwriting credits include the original play I Dream in Blues - a biographic "blues-ical" about Chicago blues veteran Katherine Davis that debuted at Adventure Stage in 2006 and was called "the sleeper hit of the season" by the Chicago Tribune - and an adaptation of poet Kenneth Patchen's radio play The City Wears A Slouch Hat.

Matthew Reeder (director) is the Artistic Director of BackStage Theater Company. In addition to directing credits across Chicago, he has previously helmed the Adventure Stage productions Holes, Still Life With Iris and The Shakespeare Stealer.

Sharon Creech (author) is a former high school English teacher and has written several novels for young adults, including Absolutely Normal Chaos, Chasing Redbird, Pleasing the Ghost, Bloomability, The Wanderer and Fishing in the Air.

Adventure Stage's New Play Workshop Series is an opportunity for the audience to preview and comment on new plays we are considering for full production in a future season. The audience is encouraged to remain after the reading for a talkback with the director and cast.

Walk Two Moons is presented on Sunday, Feb. 27 at 2:00pm at Adventure Stage Chicago's Vittum Theater, 1012 N. Noble Street, Chicago. Refreshments provided. Admission is free. Seating is limited and reservations are strongly encouraged. For reservations, please call 773-342-4141 or visit www.adventurestage.org.
