About Face Theatre Presents THE HOMOSEXUALS 7/11-24

By:

About Face Theatre concludes its 15th anniversary season and kicks-off GLBTQ Pride Month with the world premiere of THE HOMOSEXUALS by Chicago playwright Philip Dawkins, directed by AFT Artistic Director Bonnie Metzgar and featuring AFT Artistic Associates Patrick Andrews, Scott Bradley, Elizabeth Ledo and Benjamin Sprunger with Stephen Cone, Eddie Diaz and John Francisco. THE HOMOSEXUALS plays June 11 - July 24, 2011 at The Victory Gardens Richard Christiansen Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln St. in Chicago. Tickets are currently available at www.aboutfacetheatre.com.

THE HOMOSEXUALS is a comedic and heartwarming work for anyone who's ever fallen in love with a friend. The play follows Evan, a young gay man who moves to the Midwest with nothing but the shirt on his back. When a kind man invites him to a party his first night in town-the circle of friends he meets that night have impact on his life that he (nor we) could ever imagine. Chicago playwright Dawkins' epic play examines the fears, doubts and hopes facing the gay community in the 21st century in this modern-day riff on the queer classic THE BOYS IN THE BAND.

"Philip Dawkins is one of Chicago's most exciting young playwrights," comments AFT Artistic Director Bonnie Metzgar. "About Face is delighted to present the world premiere of THE HOMOSEXUALS this summer to coincide with Pride Month. It's a play exploring friendship through the lens of sex-and a story for anyone who's ever looked for love in all the wrong places," adds Metzgar.

The production team for THE HOMOSEXUALS includes: Regina Garcia (sets), David Hyman (costumes), Heather Gilbert (lighting), Sarah Pickett (sound), Dan Stermer (assistant director) and Kimberly Miller (stage manager).
