AFTER PARTY Set for One-Night-Only Show at Uptown Underground

By:

After entertaining sold out audiences for the past four years at various smaller cabaret venues, After Party is going big with a one-night-only performance at Uptown Underground on Friday, April 28 at 8pm.

After Party takes the traditional cabaret model and amps up the storytelling factor so that it's just as important as the song. The result is a unique format that's half singing and half stand-up, covering a wide range of music from Flo Rida to Vance Joy to Carla Bruni to Taylor Swift. The focus of the stories is something many Chicago residents can relate to: the crazy things that happen when we're drinking.

Since 2013, music director and host Micky York has worked with more than 50 of Chicago's most sought-after and up-and-coming performers for his song and storytelling series. For this performance, he's put together a full seven piece band and some special guests for a show that promises big laughs, heavy pours and a story about that one time Micky trashed a hotel room after his favorite baseball team won an important post-season game.

As an extra bonus for this performance, special draft beer selections will be provided by Twisted Hippo Brewing. Twisted Hippo is a small Chicago brewery working to provide inventive and interesting beer selections that cater to a variety of palates. Selections for this night include Wooden Nickel and Black Umbrella. Wooden Nickel, an IPA aged on clean oak, uses an abundance of bittering hops which mellow out during the aging process, leaving the drinker with a refreshing, approachable beer. This is a wooden nickel worth taking. Black Umbrella, an Oatmeal Rye Stout, brings a spicy note to a classic style with the addition of rye to the brewing process. This brew has a rich and roasted flavor profile with a super clean finish that leaves the drinker wanting more. Perfect in any season, Black Umbrella has you covered in any weather. Whatever your taste, whatever your style, Twisted Hippo encourages everyone to Embrace your Strange!
