A&A Ballet Holds Auditions For SLEEPING BEAUTY

A&A BALLET (A&A), under the artistic direction of Anna Reznik and Alexei Kremnev, holds open auditions for the production of Alexei Kremnev's "Sleeping Beauty," Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 4-5 p.m. A&A welcomes dancers from ages six to twenty-four to audition for various roles, which will premiere at Chicago's Studebaker Theatre (410 S. Michigan Ave) May 4, 2019 for two performances.

Auditions will be held at the American Rhythm Center in the Fine Arts Building (third floor) at 410 S. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, on January 5.

Audition attire: Girls: black camisole leotard, pink footed tights, pink canvas ballet and pointe shoes (age/level appropriate); Boys: black-footed tights, white tight fitted t-shirt, black ballet shoes. The audition will include dance movement and combinations to be performed in character. No preparation of audition material is necessary. Dancers will be notified via email within the week after the audition if they have been cast. A production fee will be required for dancers performing "Sleeping Beauty" and varies depending on role. Rehearsals begin on February 25 (for most of the parts) and will take place primarily on Saturdays at the American Rhythm Center. A pre-registration form may be downloaded at aacenterfordance.org.

"Sleeping Beauty" Princess Aurora who is fated to die from a prick to her finger on her sixteenth birthday because of a curse placed upon her at birth by a wicked fairy. A good fairy intervenes to alter the wicked fairy's tragic spell: instead of dying, Princess Aurora, and her entire kingdom, will fall into a deep sleep. Only true love's kiss will unleash the power to awaken her and the rest of her kingdom. This pinnacle of classical dance is heralded as ballet's most sumptuous and artistically exacting masterpiece. Both the regal visual splendor and Tchaikovsky's monumental score will enchant the entire family.

A National Auditions Tour for the Company, Summer Intensives and Year-round programs will be held nationwide starting in Chicago on December 29 and January 5, 2019. Additional details can be found on the website.

A&A BALLET has recently garnered rave reviews for their production "The Art Deco Nutcracker" that. Lauren Warnecke at the Chicago Tribune called it "a glitzy production (featuring) top notch student dancers and professional guest artists from American Ballet Theatre and BalletMet."
