Collaborative Arts is lucky to be hosting Tina Packer, Nigel Gore and Eric Tucker in Charlotte over the next two weeks as they perform Women of Will at Spirit Square. While these artists are in town, they have agreed to teach a one of a kind workshop for local actors and directors.

Using the text of Hamlet as a foundation, participants will together explore exercises designed to free the voice and body as well as ways to personalize the text and bring it to life. Tina, Nigel and Eric will then work with actors and directors separately - approaching the text from two distinct viewpoints and addressing needs unique to each group. Actors will receive detailed coaching on ways to approach Shakespeare's text in rehearsal and performance. Directors will receive coaching on rehearsal techniques when working with actors and classical text. Director and actors will be paired together to work on short scenes from Hamlet which will be rehearsed and performed during the workshop.

The actor-director workshop will take place in three sessions - Saturday, March 19 from 10am-4pm; Tuesday, March 22 from 6-9pm; and Saturday, March 26 from 10am-4pm. As the work will be sequential, participants must attend all three sessions.

Participants may choose either the acting or directing track. Actors of all levels of experience are welcome and will be assigned a scene partner of similar experience level. Participants wishing to join the director's track should be experienced directors with at least 3 fully-produced shows on their resumes. Prior experience with Shakespeare is helpful, but not required.

All workshops will take place in the Duke Energy Theatre at Spirit Square. Thanks to a grant from the ASC and Parker Poe, we are able to offer this workshop at no cost to participants.
