Charlotte Concerts Presents Nobuyuki Tsujii, 10/15

By:

Charlotte Concerts is kicking off its 81st performance season in style, partnering with Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) to bring piano sensation Nobuyuki "Nobu" Tsujii to the College's prestigious Halton Theater stage. Not only is the event the first in a series of great performances scheduled for Charlotte Concerts' 2010-2011 season, but it is also Nobu's first solo recital of this season's U.S. tour and only the third stop (the first in the Southeast) on this national tour. Come see Nobu Friday, October 15 at 8 p.m. in the Halton Theater, located at Overcash Center, CPCC Central Campus, 1206 Elizabeth Ave., Charlotte.

Twenty-one year old Nobu first began playing piano at the age of two when he played "Jingle Bells" on his toy piano after hearing his mother humming the tune in their Japanese home. Born blind, but gifted with a talent for music, Nobu prepared all 12 of Frederic Chopin's Op. 10 Etudes for his appearance in the 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. His performance moved the jurors to tears, brought the audience to its feet and created such fervor that Time magazine coined the term, "Nobu Fever."

Since that extraordinary performance, Nobu's star has been on the rise. During the 2009-2010 season, he performed more than 50 engagements throughout Asia, and appeared at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., the Aspen Music Festival and Academy in Colorado, and the Klavier-Festival Ruhr in Germany.

Individual tickets are $45 - $55; season tickets range from $175 - $225. To order tickets, please call the SunTrust Box Office at 704.330.6534. Free parking is available in the employee/theater parking deck, accessible from East Fourth Street.
