”Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan after twenty-two years of child-raising in the suburbs. Greg’s career as a financial trader is winding down, while Kate’s career, as a public-school English teacher, is beginning to offer her more opportunities. Greg brings home a dog he found in the park—or that has found him—bearing only the name ‘Sylvia’ on her name tag. A street-smart mixture of Lab and poodle, Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. She offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of middle age. To Kate, Sylvia becomes a rival for affection. And Sylvia thinks Kate just doesn’t understand the relationship between man and dog. The marriage is put in serious jeopardy until Greg and Kate learn to compromise after a series of hilarious and touching complications, and Sylvia becomes a valued part of their lives.”

Janelle French

Tom / Phyllis / Leslie
Janelle French is thrilled to return to the Carlisle Theatre stage playing Tom, Phyllis, and Leslie. Bringing three very different personalities to life added a fun and exciting challenge to her repertoire, and she's very thankful to have been trusted with these supporting characters. Janelle's previous roles include Miss Scarlet in "Clue," Mrs. Cratchit in "A Steampunk Christmas Carol," Loretta in "Dying for a Slice," and Claire Ganz in "Rumors," amongst others. She thanks directors Kimberly Hess and Dave Lang, as well as the entire cast and crew, for teaching this old dog some new tricks. When not on stage, Janelle enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, reading, and creating hats as The Mystical Milliner in Carlisle. Special thanks go out to her husband, Tim, and her sons, Gabe and Max, for continuing to support her theatrical endeavors.

Kassie Shoup

Kate
Kathryn “Kassie” Shoup is doggone thrilled to be a part of the cast of Sylvia! She was recently seen on stage at the Carlisle Theater in The Vagina Monologues and at the Little Theater of Mechanicsburg as Blanche Morton in Broadway Bound by Neil Simon. No stranger to the stage, Kassie studied Dramatic Arts at West Virginia Wesleyan College and moved to Boiling Springs after college to work at Allenberry Playhouse as their Properties Manager and part-time murder mystery actor. Kassie works for the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board as an Information Technology Generalist and enjoys running and drinking beer (usually in that order) with the Harrisburg Beer Runners.

She would like to thank Kimberly and Dave for this incredible opportunity and her cast mates and the rest of the team for being so welcoming.
