State Theatre Festival for Pennsylvania Association Of Community Theatres Held This Weekend in Gettysburg

By:

Gettysburg Community Theatre (GCT) the not-for-profit 501c3 community theatre in downtown Gettysburg, located inside the old Elks Lodge at 49 York Street, will host the State Theatre Festival for Pennsylvania Association Of Community Theatres (PACT) here in Gettysburg this weekend, March 13 and 14, 2015 at GCT.

This is a bi-annual adjudication festival where any community theatre within the State of PA can enter a show to be adjudicated by a panel of professional theatre artists for the chance to be selected to advance on to the regional Eastern States festival and then a chance there to be selected to advance on to the national festival for the American Association Of Community Theatres.

This year, PACT Fest 2015 has six community theatres entered into the competition including GCT. The performances will be held Friday, March 13th starting at 7pm and more performances continuing throughout the day on Saturday, March 14th beginning at 10:30am. GCT will open the festival performances with their production of RENT on Friday, March 13th at 7pm. The schedule of theatres coming to Gettysburg from across the State of PA for this festival include: Community Theatre League of Williamsport presenting The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee on Friday, March 13th following the 7pm GCT performance of RENT. Then on Saturday, March 14th at 10:30am, Little Theatre Of Wilkes Barre will present The Crucible, followed by at 1:30pm, Barley Sheaf Players of Lionville, PA presenting Postcards From A Dead Dog, followed by Hamilton Gibson Productions of Welsboro, PA presenting Miracle On South Division Street, and then The Barnstormers of Ridley Park, PA presenting Nine. Some shows contain adult language and themes.

The shows entered in the adjudication festival can only have an 80 minute tech rehearsal on the stage, and must set up their entire set within 10 minutes, perform their show within 60 minutes, and then strike their set within 10 minutes. Everything for their set and props etc for their show must fit into a 10x10 (100 square foot) space provided at the festival venue.

This is quite an honor to host a state theatre festival such as this and GCT hopes that Gettysburg will come on out to support their efforts. The ticket sales go the non-profit organization PACT and tickets can be purchased online at www.pactheatres.org or at the door the day of the event at GCT. Seating is open general admission and not reserved but it is limited seating.
