Hershey Area Playhouse Theatre Academy Announces Spring 2017 Film & Media Arts Classes

By:

Hershey Area Playhouse Theatre Academy announces its film and media arts classes for students in grades K-12 in an 8-week spring session every Saturday from March 18 to May 6, 2017.

In the Creative Kids - Small Stories session, students in grades K-3 will learn basic film protocol so that they may direct and star in their own movies. Techniques of storyboarding, camera angles and shots, and tips for acting for the camera walk hand in hand with learning all about story sequence and storytelling skills.

In the Acting It Up - I Need a Hero session, for students grades 4-6 will learn to use simple video tricks, editing techniques and stage combat to create realistic special effects and produce a short film revolving around a super hero. Techniques of storyboarding, camera angles and shots, and tips for acting for the camera support the creation of their original films.

In the Media Arts Studio 1 - Music Video Mayhem session, students in grades 7-12 will learn pre- and post-production techniques to create expressive music videos in a "playground" atmosphere of creative exploration. They will be challenged to create a storyline given a camera, simple video editing software and a time limit of one minute for the finished product. Students will explore film protocols, and how to manipulate shots and angles.

Taught by instructors with experience in both theatre and education, all acting classes will culminate with an open house at The Playhouse, located at the corner of Sand Hill Road and Cherry Drive. For more information and to download a registration form, visit www.HersheyAreaPlayhouse.com and select the Theatre Academy drop-down menu. Note: The registration deadline is five days prior to the start of the first class.

The Hershey Area Playhouse Theatre Academy is sponsored in part by a grant from The Hershey Company.
