DreamWrights Holds Auditions For Newbery Award-Winning BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA

DreamWrights Holds Auditions For Newbery Award-Winning BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA ImageOn Monday and Tuesday, February 26 and 27, beginning at 6:00 pm, DreamWrights Center for Community Arts will hold auditions for Bridge to Terabithia, a play based on Katherine Paterson's Newbery Award-winning novel. In the story, best friends Leslie and Jesse create their own imaginary kingdom in the woods to escape the realities of home and school.

Guest Director, Kevin Alvarnaz, says that since Bridge to Terabithia revolves primarily around the lives of fifth grade students in rural southern Virginia, the majority of the cast will be comprised of children, ages 13 and younger. He hints that some of the themes of the story can be "weighty" and recommends that anyone auditioning should read the book. He shares, "I'm looking to cast children who are mature, sensitive, and willing to dig deep to truly become the characters that will share this challenging subject matter. Yet, at the same time, those children must not lose sight of their youthful playfulness."

Auditions for this production are open to ages 7 - adult and will be double casted. Alvarnaz is counting upon a company of 50-60 people, with 32 of those serving as actors and the rest supporting those on stage. He shares, "If your age or gender doesn't line up with that of a character, please consider serving in a crew position."

Alvarnaz shares advice on how to get noticed when auditioning for this production. "Read the book, learn about your character, and become that character at auditions! Make me believe that you are that character. I can't wait to meet you - and your character - at auditions!"

Auditions for Bridge to Terabithia will run Monday, February 26 and Tuesday, February 27 beginning at 6:00 pm. No prior experience is necessary. Those auditioning are encouraged to make an audition appointment but walk-ins are welcome. Audition preparation materials and information on the process can be found online at www.dreamwrights.org. For those interested in making the most of their time in the audition room, Audition Workshops are available for adults age 19+ on Wednesday, February 21 from 6-8 pm and for children age 7 - 11 on Saturday, February 24 from 2-3 pm. Audition Workshops for other age groups are also available. To learn more about these workshops and to register, please visit www.dreamwrights.org.
