Newburgh, NY?THE RAILROAD PLAYHOUSE continues to introduce its varied programming this February, with an art exhibit By Barthelemy Atsin plus a series of workshops sampling their upcoming educational series. In recognition of Black History month The Playhouse chose to highlight Atsin?s art and his film After School Chronicles showcasing his specialized work with children?reinforcing the Railroad?s playhouse commitment to arts in Education.

After School Chronicles and Art Opening
The Art and Animation of Barthelemy Atsin
Opening February 13 ? in partnership with the Downing Film Center
Atsin?s work will be on display in the gallery thru February 28

The evening of February 13th commences at the Downing Film Center with a short film by Barthelemy Atsin showcasing his work with NYC students. This will be followed by a discussion with the artist about the film and his work. Then a short walk to The Playhouse where the conversation continues with Atsin with a viewing of his artwork in the gallery.

The partnership between The Playhouse and Downing intersects artistc mediums and encourages patrons to walk the Newburgh Waterfront.

RR Playhouse offers a series of interactive workshops to preview upcoming Railroad Playhouse education programs, culminating in our inaugural 7 to 7 Playmaking Festival in partnership with the Newburgh Free Academy's Theater Department!

February 21, 2011 at 7:00pm - Stage Combat Workshop
$5 (recommended for ages 12+)
Join Education Director Ben Morse (head of Drama and Theatre Studies at The Piggott School in Reading, England) to learn fun and safe stage combat techniques!

February 22, 2011 at 7:30pm - Theater Games and Improv Workshop
$5 (recommended for ages 12+)
Join us for an evening of fun, simple theater games without competition. Here is an opportunity to make new friends, express oneself, and play! Led by professional teaching artist Melanie Gold (American Academy of Dramatic Arts Alum and NYC middle school teacher) and Railroad Playhouse Artistic Director Seth Soloway.

February 26, 2011 at 2:00pm - Broadway-Style Dance Workshop
$5 (recommended for ages 11-15)
Learn to dance like a Broadway stars in this unique dance workshop by Janalee Wedenko from Janalee's School of Dance!

February 25, 2011 at 7:00pm - 7 to 7 Playmaking Festival
$10

At 7PM on Thursday, February 24, a group of acting students from the Newburgh Free Academy will arrive at the Railroad Playhouse and work OVERNIGHT with theater professionals to create a BRAND NEW PLAY! The students will work with Artistic Director Seth Soloway and Education Director Ben Morse (supervised by parents and chaperones) through the night to write and produce a new play based on a theme of BULLYING.

At 7PM on Friday, February 25, the students will perform the play for public audiences!

THE RAILROAD PLAYHOUSE is dedicated to the revitalization of Newburgh and the preservation of Newburgh?s historic West Shore Railroad Station by providing a space for high-quality, artistically creative performing arts experiences.

The Railroad Playhouse will strive to provide a home for playwrights to workshop and showcase new plays; present local, national, and International Artists of all genres; create partnerships with local businesses and organizations to continue revitalizing the area; implement after school programming and a summer arts camp for local children; and create teaching-artists residences in local schools.
