THE MERCHANT OF VENICE Comes to FSC This August

By: Aug. 18, 2016
The Franklin Stage Company continues its 20th season with three performances of Two-Man Merchant, an innovative interpretation of The Merchant of Venice, William Shakespeare's challenging and fascinating classic. Performances are Friday August 26th and Saturday August 27th at 8pm and Sunday August 28th at 5pm.

FSC is delighted to host director Dan Swern and this production from his coLAB Arts in New Brunswick, NJ, a dynamic new company which enables artists and social advocates to create transformative original work that engages with the community. This production features two highly versatile and accomplished actors, Heather Holmes and John P. Keller. In Two-Hand Merchant, two strangers discover the text of William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice. Armed with costumes and, at first, books-in-hand, what starts as a game turns into a confrontation of personal prejudice and reconciliation with our past. FSC's 20th season embraces the future with exhilarating and relevant renditions of classic plays from a dynamic new generation of professional theatre artists.

As always at FSC, admission is free (donations gratefully accepted) and reservations are recommended. Call 607-829-3700. FSC is located in Chapel Hall at 25 Institute Street in Franklin. Programming is made possible, in part, by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. More details about FSC, Chapel Hall and this 20th season can be found at franklinstagecompany.org. Take note: Saturday, August 27 is New Old Franklin Day. Spend the day exploring Franklin before settling in at the theatre. Food, the Franklin Free Library Book Sale, and more!
