Redhouse LAB Series Present 'NIGHT MOTHER, 11/22-24

By: Nov. 13, 2013

After premiering the LAB series with a very successful "A Doll's House" by Henrik Ibsen, directed by Victoria Buda, the Redhouse Arts Center is excited to announce the second LAB series play, "'night Mother" by Marsha Norman and directed by Jenn DeCook.

"'night Mother" tells the heart-wrenching story of Jessie and her mother Thelma as they embark on a cordial remembrance of things past. 'night Mother explores a parents' worst nightmare as Thelma tries to convince her daughter that life is worth living despite the constant struggles and suffering.

Jenn DeCook is a local actor, director, and teacher and has been involved in almost every theater company in Syracuse over the last 25 years. She was nominated for a SALT award for Director of the Year for her direction of "Lizzie Borden Took An Axe" with the Covey Theater Company, and has been seen in many local area productions.

The Redhouse LAB Series takes place in Redhouse's new rehearsal space which functions as a small black box theatre with lighting and audience seating. The renovation of this space was made possible by a generous grant from the CNY Community Foundation. The Redhouse LAB Series produces 5 plays a year, featuring emerging directors, actors, and designers. The Lab provides professional training opportunities to high school, college, and community members looking to gain experience in the performing arts, as well as the fields of production design and technical execution.
