Pirates and Fire Jugglers Come to the Hudson Valley, 6/28-29
A band of fire jugglers will light up Philipsburg Manor in Sleepy Hollow during A Night on Fire, Saturday, June 28, and Sunday, June 29. Performed by the juggling and comedy troupe A Different Spin, A Night on Fire features stunts and family friendly humor and is ideal for all ages. This one-hour performance is a fully choreographed, live display of fire arts featuring four flame-wielding, fire-eating performers twisting and turning, juggling and dancing, spinning and sword fighting. Performances are at 7 and 9 p.m. on Saturday and 7:30 on Sunday.
The following weekend, on Saturday, July 5, this year's Pirates of the Hudson festival features a rollicking show fresh from Off-Broadway. The Greatest Story Never Told, a swashbuckling pirate musical in which the audience helps write and perform the tale, takes the stage at Tarrytown Music Hall. The show begins with a crew of misfit pirates flung into the future by a bumbling sea witch, with only one chance of returning home: performing the greatest pirate epic ever seen on stage. But when their script is torn asunder, these pirates-turned-actors are forced to improvise based on audience suggestions. Performances are at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm. Historic Hudson Valley, the non-profit education and preservation organization that owns and operates Philipsburg Manor, is the producer of both events.
Pirates tickets include admission the Music Hall performance and admission to Philipsburg Manor in Sleepy Hollow, where a crew of buccaneers drops anchor from 10-6pm. Visitors can collect free bandanas, get pirate-themed tattoos, and embark on a treasure hunt. In addition, an interactive exhibit in the historic site's manor house explores the link between pirates and the heritage of Philipsburg Manor.Love Theater in Central New York? Join The Community!
