Photo Flash: Broadway Training Center presents PETER AND THE STARCATCHER

Broadway Training Center of Westchester, one of the region's premier performing arts schools, will present "Peter and The Starcatcher," March 31 through April 2 at the Irvington Town Hall Theater in Irvington, N.Y.

The winner of five Tony Awards, this thrilling adventure story upends the century-old story of how a miserable orphan comes to be The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up (a.k.a. Peter Pan). A wildly theatrical adaptation of Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson's best-selling novels, the play was conceived for the stage by directors, Roger Rees and Alex Timbers, and written by Rick Elice, with music by Wayne Barker. From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, "Peter and the Starcatcher" playfully explores the depths of greed and despair... and the bonds of friendship, duty and love.

A young orphan and his mates are shipped off from Victorian England to a distant island ruled by the evil King Zarboff. They know nothing of the mysterious trunk in the captain's cabin, which contains a precious, otherworldly cargo. At sea, the boys are discovered by a precocious young girl named Molly, a Starcatcher-in-training who realizes that the trunk's precious cargo is starstuff, a celestial substance so powerful that it must never fall into the wrong hands. When the ship is taken over by pirates - led by the fearsome Black Stache, a villain determined to claim the trunk and its treasure for his own - the journey quickly becomes a thrilling adventure.

This BTC production will feature members of the Senior Ensemble program, a prestigious an award winning educational theater based experience, comprised of participants accepted by Entrance Interview and Audition only. These eleven skilled actors are portraying more than 100 unforgettable characters. "Peter and the Starcatcher" uses ingenious stagecraft and the limitless possibilities of imagination to bring the story to life; the Neverland you never knew... until now.

It's a known fact that BTC's Co-Artistic Directors, Fiona Santos and Jason Brantman, often choose material that pushes students to work to the top of their intellect and imagination. Peter and The Starcatcher is yet another stellar example of how this educational theatre program develops character both on and off the stage.

BTC's production of "Peter and The Starcatcher" will reach the stage at 7pm on Friday and Saturday, March 31 and April 1, and at 3:00 on Sunday, March 2 at the Irvington Town Hall Theater (85 Main Street).

Under Brantman and Santos' leadership since 2004, BTC and its students have won over 45 National Youth Arts Awards, including Outstanding Ensemble for seven years in a row. Westchester Magazine has lauded BTC theater classes as the best in Southern Westchester, and Westchester Family has named BTC "Best Children's Theater Company" and a "Top 5" dance studio.
