PRIDE AND PREJUDICE Opens This Month at Hangar Theater Company
The Hangar Theatre Company's production of Pride and Prejudice comes alive on stage from July 19 to 28. Straight from its extended New York run, the Hangar Theatre Company is proud to produce this show written by Kate Hamill and directed by Suzanne Agins.
In their attempt to win the game of life, the Bennet sisters learn the complicated rules of mating rituals and settling down.
With many mishaps and miscommunications, Lizzy, Jane, Bingley, and Darcy traverse the struggles of societal expectations in this witty adaptation of Jane Austen's classic. Hamil brings humor and passion to the story of the Bennet sisters' quest to find suitable husbands.
Artistic Director Michael Barakiva says, "Hamill's adaptations of classic literary novels are being performed all over the country, and we are thrilled to produce this Lansing-native and Ithaca College alum's work, especially given that the Hangar Theatre was where Kate had her acting debut as a member of our Next Generation summer theatre program." In 2017 Hamill was named Playwright of the Year by the Wall Street Journal and received Best Theatre of 2017 by WSJ and the Huffington Post, Pride and Prejudice.
"It has been an absolute pleasure working on this adaptation, which manages to treat Austen's text with reverence even as it infuses the plot with a modern sensibility," Director Suzanne Agins says. "The intense doubling (a cast of 9 playing 15 or 16 characters) and breakneck pace of the show, not to mention dancing, music, and a manic spirit of joy, have made us laugh throughout the process. We can't wait to invite audiences to laugh with us."
The Hangar Theatre Company thanks premiere and co-sponsors of Pride and Prejudice M&T Bank and Insero & Co Certified Public Accountants, the Mainstage Summer series Partners in Flight CFCU, Cayuga Radio Group and Partner in the Arts, Ithaca College.
