Jewish Repertory Theatre Presents Strudel Baking Classes Jewish Repertory Theatre opens its season with the world premiere of The Strudel Lady, playwright Shirl Solomon's story about Chava, an American-born, Jewish Orthodox wife and mother, who seeks to put her life back together when she is deserted by her husband and children and eventually finds new love and reclaims her independence and self-esteem through her skill as a baker.

To sweeten the season, JRT is offering two strudel baking workshops with Barbara Keating of Sweet Temptations du Jour. Using Eastern European recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation, Barbara will teach participants how to make strudel from scratch.

Two workshops are being offered, September 20 and 27, 6-9:30 at the Polish Cadets Hall, 927 Grant St, Buffalo, NY 14207. Cost per person is $45 and includes a strudel making demo, along with a presentation of the cultural history and traditions surrounding strudel. Each participant will make his/her own strudel to take home, along with a traditional babushka and recipes. People may bring their own wine and will enjoy a homemade meal of pizza, salad and antipasti salad, accompanied by live music while strudels are baking.

Space is limited to 10 per workshop - so book early! To reserve your space, call Jordana Halpern, Managing Director of the Jewish Repertory Theater, at 716-204-2255 or contact jhalpern@jccbuffalo.org
