CRT Downtown Presents A Tribute To Janis Joplin With Amy Lynn And The Honey Men
For the final concert event in their spring season, Cortland Repertory Theatre Downtown presents NYC sensation Amy Lynn and The Honey Men in "A Woman Left Lonely - A Celebration of Janis Joplin". This incredible concert will be seen in Cortland for one night only on Saturday, May 5 at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $35.00 and a beer/wine cash bar will be available.
In this loving tribute to Joplin's indomitable spirit, powerhouse vocalist Amy Lynn and her 7-piece band tear into Joplin's ferocious songs while re-contextualizing them for today. Amy considers Janis's legacy as a sexually liberated, emotionally vulnerable woman in today's world, when such a person is only slightly less terrifying to the world than she was in the 60's. Songs include Piece of My Heart, Little Girl Blue, A Woman Left Lonely, Me and Bobby McGee and many more.
The Honey Men is a seven-piece band that blows glitter all over the traditional Memphis-Motown soul/rock style. Amy Lynn's unique flair of quirky, down-to-earth humor countervails against the serious musicianship of The Honey Men's team of professional Broadway musicians including Alex Hamlin on bari sax, Ed Rosenberg on tenor sax, Jeff Hermanson on trumpet, Dave Sherman on keys, Chris Tarry on bass, and Joel Rosenblatt on drums. Both together and apart, members of The Honey Men draw on a range of experience playing for acts such as Roberta Flack, Bette Midler, Spoon, Red Baraat, St. Vincent, The National, Yo La Tengo, Loser's Lounge, Duffy, Antibalas, and the Radio City Orchestra.
